Frieze Masters London 2019
Early Viennese Modernism had a lasting influence on avant-garde Austrian artists from the post-war period to the present day. The pioneering achievements of the artists of the fin de siècle were the radical and intensive examination of the human body and the various dimensions of physical and psychological experience. The artists of Viennese Actionism take this body-centered art as its precursors. The Actionist approach also found international parallels in the 1960s and 1970s, whereby the human body was rarely treated as radically as in the works of Günter Brus, Hermann Nitsch, Otto Muehl, and others.

At this year´s FRIEZE MASTERS, W&K presents outstanding works of Classical Modernism and Viennese Actionism. Body-centred works are exhibited in a curated show with works by Gustav Klimt, Egon Schiele, Oskar Kokoschka, Günter Brus, Franz West, Otto Muehl, and others. The show is complemented by international modernist positions, including Pablo Picasso and German Expressionists such as Ernst Ludwig Kirchner.
