Eduard Angeli

(* 1942 Wien)
The contemporary painter Eduard Angeli was born in 1949 in Vienna. As a part of the class of Robin Christian Andersen, he studied painting and art education at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna from 1960 to 1965. After completing his studies, Angeli moved to Istanbul in 1967, where he worked as a guest professor for painting at the State Academy of Fine Arts until 1971. Angeli lives and works in Vienna and Venice.
After Angeli's childhood and youth in Vienna, the painter moved to Istanbul, where he founded a family and created his first works in mixed technique in his studio near the Bosporus. In 1968 he held his first major exhibition in the State Academy of Fine Arts, followed by a four-year period as guest professor. During this time, Eduard Angeli was in close contact with the artist group "Realities" with which he organized a joint exhibition in Istanbul in 1969. Even after his return to Vienna in 1971 Angeli spent his summers with friends in Turkey until the eighties. His focus changed in 1974 from acrylic painting to oil painting, to which an intensified interest for pastel on canvas occurred at the end of the eighties. From the year 2002, Angeli spent his summers in Venice and eventually moved his place of residence there. Eduard Angeli was able to record his first successes during his studies. Among other things, he received the art prize of the Central Park of the municipality of Vienna in 1963. Further prizes followed, and in 2003, the artist was awarded the Golden Emblem of Merit for the Land of Vienna. In addition to exhibitions such as the Albertina Museum (1986, 2006, 2017) and the Austrian Gallery in the Upper Belvedere in Vienna (2003), the Galerie Wienerroither & Kohlbacher, which represents the artist in Vienna since 2005, also held exhibitions in the years 2012 and 2014.
