Xenia Hausner

Xenia Hausner grew up in an artist-family. Her father Rudolf Hausner already was a renown painter. From 1972 on she studied at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna and at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London. Until the early 1990s she worked not only as a painter but also as a stage designer in Vienna, Salzburg, London and Brussels. From 1992 on Xenia Hausner focused exclusively on painting. In these she deals with depictions of people whom she portrays in an enigmatic pictorial world and ambiguous situations. The observer becomes part of a moment that does not immediately explain itself to him and that needs to be explored. However, the depiction of the persons is by no means to be categorized to the classical portrait - the composition of the picture shows a much more complex constellation. Xenia Hausner realises her large format works in an expressive, colourful style. In her Oeuvre, apart from the focus on painting, we find also works on paper, photography and mixed media works, where the artist relates photography and painting to one another.
