100 years Neue Galerie Vienna
On 20 November 1923, Otto Kallir's (1894 - 1978) Neue Galerie opened its doors in Vienna and presented an exhibition of paintings by Egon Schiele. In the interwar period, Kallir played a key role in establishing Schiele's, Klimt's and Gerstel's posthumous reputations as one of the leading dealers in modern art. His exhibitions on Edvard Munch (1924), Paul Signac (1924), Caspar David Friedrich (1926), Vincent Van Gogh (1928) and Auguste Renoir (1931) attracted a great deal of attention in Vienna. At the same time, Kallir supported the Hagenbund and artists of his time, including Alfred Kubin and Oskar Kokoschka. Through donations and sales to American museums, he made a significant contribution to the international recognition of Austrian modernism from 1939 onwards.

From 30 November 2023 to 2 February 2024, W&K - Wienerroither & Kohlbacher, in collaboration with Jane Kallir and the Kallir Research Institute in New York, is presenting a comprehensive exhibition in honour of Otto Kallir. This museum-style show will present works by Klimt, Schiele, Kokoschka, Kubin, Waldmüller, Beckmann, Kollwitz, Lerch, Faistauer and Jungnickel in particular.
