AROTIN & SERGHEI
The artist duo AROTIN & SERGHEI has been working for over twenty years between Vienna, Paris and Berlin. The spectrum of their work includes intermedia art projects and paintings, as well as drawings, media sculptures and installations in public space. They continuously explore the development of signs, forms and contents in art. Questions of physics and philosophy play as much a role as the perception of light and sound. Their artistic discourse is as dense as the works appear light.

Hand-drawn portraits of light cells, the size of human bodies, form the building blocks of their sometimes huge installations and "infinite light columns". AROTIN & SERGHEI's main work, Infinite Screen, questions the idea of the infinite in our digital age, beyond the limits of screens. It has been exhibited at the Venice Biennale, the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna, Ars Electronica, the Fondation Beyeler, and most recently the Centre Pompidou in Paris, among others.

From November 15 to December 10, Galerie Wienerroither & Kohlbacher in Vienna will present recent works by the artist duo, ranging from drawings and light cells to large-scale, intermedia images.

event tip

In the course of the Wien Modern Festival 2021, a special performance will take place on November 16 in the great hall of the Wiener Konzerthaus: AROTIN & SERGHEI will present their intermedial composition for 18 screens Vertigo/Infinite Screen in the Centre Pompidou version, created in collaboration with composer Brice Pauset and performed live with Klangforum Wien. Elements of color symbolism, deconstruction of space and dynamics from Hitchcock's masterpiece Vertigo are taken up.

The intermedial musical and visual composition was developed in collaboration with Klangforum Wien, WDR and IRCAM - Centre Pompidou Paris, funded by the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation. The visual installation was produced by AROTIN & SERGHEI Contemporary Art in partnership with the Centre Pompidou and Espace Muraille and W&K - Wienerroither & Kohlbacher. The performance is led by Swiss conductor Titus Engel, with live electronics by Ircam Centre Pompidou, and live animation by the artist duo AROTIN & SERGHEI. find out more
