From 25 May W&K will present works by the Austrian artist Walter Vopava in the baroque Palais. The exhibition focuses on current works by the artist. Walter Vopava studied at the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts with Professor Maximilian Melcher. He lives and works in Vienna and Berlin. Since the mid-1990s, Vopava's works have been dominated by heavy, black blocks of paint and enter into a dialogue with bright forms, partly overlapping, partly staggered or layered. The artist is interested in the representation of difference and thus explores the balance of power. Although the almost pure black brings a certain heaviness, the light tones dominate, which change from purple or green shades to an almost pure white. The border of the picture is removed for the viewer by the floating forms. Walter Vopava (born May 10, 1948 in Vienna) is a member of the MAERZ Artists' Association and the Association of Austrian Artists. He is one of the most important representatives of abstract painting.
